Augercast (CFA) Piles

Cast-in-place pile foundation solutions

Temporary shoring for slope management

Kalamazoo Justice Center  |  Kalamazoo, MI

The new Kalamazoo Justice Center was constructed with a massive augercast pile foundation system installed from the bottom of pile cap elevation, which was about 14' below existing city street grade. We installed the foundation system and were the design-build contractor for the project's temporary shoring solution, which incuded construction of a 140-linear-foot cantilevered shoring system consisting of tangent augercast piles.

We were the design-build contractor for  CFA-piles as the deep foundation elements to support the mat foundation for a new Vaccine Research building at the National Institute of Health complex in Bethesda, MD.

What are augercast piles?

Augercast piles, also known as Continuous Flight Augers (CFA) piles, are cast-in-place deep foundation solutions that use a hollow stem auger with continuous flights.

How do they work?

Augercast piles are formed by drilling into the ground with a hollow, continuous flight auger to a required depth or degree of resistance. A high slump grout mix is then pumped down the stem of the auger under constant pressure while the auger is slowly withdrawn, leaving a shaft of fluid grout to ground level.

Why do you need augercast piles?

Augercast piles are a cost effective alternative to other deep foundation systems. They cause minimal disturbance and vibrations and are suited for low noise and/or environmentally sensitive areas.
