ϳԹJoins NYSDOT's I-278 Project
Pittsburgh-based geotechnical engineering, construction and general contracting firm ϳԹ was recently awarded the foundation contract for the New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) I-278 bridge rehab project.
The overall, $78 million project includes the rehabilitation of five bridges, including four on the Staten Island Expressway.
ϳԹwas awarded the design-build micropile contract for two of the five bridges by China Construction America’s (CCA) Civil division. The project includes the replacement of both bridge deck and abutment structures.
The micropiles will be drilled beneath the existing bridges to limit downtime during the bridge replacement.
“The State of New York has made a tremendous commitment to upgrading their infrastructure,” said Dino Kartofilis, Vice President of Nicholson’s Eastern Region. “We’ve worked with the NYSDOT many times over the years, and we’re looking forward to another successful project with them.”
The project is currently still in the design phase, with the construction phase expected to wrap up in the fall of 2019.
