ϳԹJoins Virginia's Transform I-66 Outside the Beltway Project
ϳԹ recently joined the State of Virginia’s Transform I-66 Outside the Beltway Project.
The project will provide new travel choices and congestion relief across a 22.5 mile stretch of I-66 from I-495 to near Route 29 in Gainesville.
Improvements to the busy roadway include new express lanes, more than 4,000 new park-and-ride spaces with convenient access to the express lanes, new and improved bus service and transit routes, interchange improvements, and 11 miles of new bike and pedestrian trails.
ϳԹwas contracted to construct three soil nail walls on the east-bound side of I-66. Two of the walls will be adjacent to the Blake Lane overpass and the third wall will be near the Metro Station at the 495 interchange.
Each of the walls will be constructed with 40/20 hollow bar soil nails and an initial structural shotcrete face. A final architectural shotcrete face will also be applied to each of the three walls.
“This project is going to have a positive impact on both the residents and commuters in the Virginia and DC Metro Area,” said Dino Kartofilis, Vice President of Nicholson’s Eastern Region. “We are always proud to bring our expertise to projects that dramatically improve our nation’s infrastructure – and this one is no exception.”
The overall project got started in 2017 and is expected to wrap up in late 2022. Nicholson’s portion of the work is on track to be completed in Spring of 2021.
